Benefits News – PIP and UC

Recent news:

Universal Credit – a court case has decided that 2 men who lost the severe disability component after changing from “legacy benefits” to the new Universal Credit were treated “unlawfully”. (external link)

Personal Independence Payments -

1. People with the highest awards, and whose condition is not expected to get better, will no longer have to go through continued re-assessments for PIP.  Guidance is due out in summer though, so this has not yet been implemented.  (external link)

2. The government has withdrawn its appeal  against a court case about how activity 3 on the PIP form should be scored. This will mean that many more people will be able to score points about managing a therapy or monitoring a health condition.
