The ADKC centre
The Positive Empowerment Group (or PEG) is a peer support group that runs monthly on a Monday morning – though you will have to keep your eyes on our events page for the correct date each month!
The group was the idea of one of the members of ADKC who approached the Chief Executive and said “it would be really useful if there was a support group at ADKC where you can come to unload and let people know the difficulties that you are experiencing to see if they can support you’ – or words to that effect!!
And so the group was born!
The PEG is a peer support group, but it is co-facilitated by a trained counsellor – Joe, who also supports in the Trauma group on a Tuesday- so people attending the group are able to give and receive support in a safe, confidential, way.
NOTE: This is not one-to-one counselling. Everyone attending who wants to raise an issue needs to be able to have a say (so it is important to come at the start so your issue can be put on the agenda). In practice this means that each person will have a limited amount of time allocated before having to allow someone else to raise their issue. This does mean that you won’t necessarily have support you feel necessary to resolve the issue that you raise, however most people who attend have found it useful to just get the ideas and moral support.
